Region 7-AAAAAA

North Gwinnett Bulldogs (7-2): can clinch the number 1 seed in the region and have home field advantage in the playoffs with a victory over Mountain View this Friday. Since their loss to Norcross, the Bulldogs have averaged 57 points in their last 3 games and are one of the hottest teams in the county. After a lost in the championship game last year, they look to complete this year on the winning side with trophy in hand.

Bulldog Sleeper: 2015 QB John Urzua 63% completion rate with 2,332 yds 25 TD passes and only 4 interceptions

Peachtree Ridge Lions (7-2): will obtain the #2 spot in the region and host a playoff game if they can beat Mill Creek this Friday. This team is absolutely loaded with young talent. With this school producing 1st round NFL talent such as DT Cameron Heyward (Pittsburgh Steelers) and CB Bradley Roby (Denver Broncos), the Lions are no stranger to talent and success. The Lions are striving to have a deeper push in the playoffs after last year’s 2nd round loss suffered at the hands of the Dacula Falcons.

Lion Sleeper: 2017 LB Breon Dixon (Physical Linebacker who plays from sideline to sideline)

Mill Creek Hawks (6-3): are able to lock up the #2 spot and host a playoff game with a victory over the aforementioned Peachtree Ridge Lions this Friday. The Hawks started off the season losing 3 of their first 5 games but seemed to have found their stride as they are riding a 4 game winning streak. Last year, the Hawks were the odd team out as one of the best teams in the state but unable to clinch a playoff spot in a very tough region. They look to make some noise this year and plan to show the state what Mill Creek football is about.

Hawk Sleeper: 2016 DE Tyler Vernon (Relentless player with 12 sacks)

Norcross Blue Devils (6-3): the 2-time defending state champs will be able to secure the #4 and final playoff spot in the region if they are able to defeat the Collins Hill Eagles this week. They began the season winning 6 of their first 7 games but have lost their last 2 games scoring a total of 2 points. Consistency will be the key for the Blue Devils as they look to get in the playoff mix and make some noise.

Blue Devil Sleeper: 2015 LB Jerome Pledger (Physical linebacker who brings the hammer on tackles)

Collins Hill Eagles (5-4): have an opportunity to clinch the #4 and final playoff spot in the region with a win over the previously mentioned Blue Devils. Collins Hill, similar to Norcross, started the season winning 5 of their first 7 games but have lost their last 2 games scoring 10 total points. Last year, the Eagles lost in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. They hope to return to the playoffs and make a deeper run.

Eagle Sleeper: 2016 WR Canyon Slade (Elusive player who just simply makes plays)

Region 8-AAAAAA

Grayson Rams (9-1): are currently on a bye week and have clinched at least a share of the top spot in the region. The Rams will likely need the luck of a coin flip to determine if they are hosting a playoff game. This team is one of the top teams in the state defensively allowing a measly 8 points per game. The Rams have Division 1 talent at all 3 levels of the defense including 3 linebackers who all have 70+ tackles this year. After not making the playoffs last year, the Rams are out to show the state they are back!

Ram Sleeper: 2016 RB Cameryn “Beastmode” Brent (Leading rusher in Gwinnett)

Dacula Falcons (8-1): could obtain a share of the top spot in the region with a win over the Parkview Panthers this Friday. The Falcons are coming off their 1st loss of the season at the hands of the Archer Tigers. Dacula is a very scrappy team who does a great job of forcing turnovers defensively. Remembering they lost in the quarterfinals last year, they appear to be a hungry group of Falcons ready to attack their prey.

Falcon Sleeper: 2015 ATH CJ Mayes (Team’s leader in rushing yards and interceptions)

Archer Tigers (6-3): are able to clinch a share of the region title by getting a victory over the Brookwood Broncos this Friday. The Tigers began the season losing their first 3 games by 8 points or less. Since that time, they have reeled off 6 straight wins. Last year, Archer completed an undefeated regular season and loss in the 2nd round of the playoffs to North Gwinnett. This time around they plan on making it to the Georgia Dome.

Tiger Sleeper: 2017 LB Quinton Miller (2nd year leading the team in tackles)

Central Gwinnett Black Knights (5-4): have already clinched the fourth and final playoff spot for the region. This will be the Black Knights 1st time making the playoffs since 2006. They look to end the regular season with a victory over the Berkmar Patriots this Friday and enter the postseason on a 2 game winning streak.

Black Knight Sleeper: 2015 QB Eric Forrest (2nd in passing yards in Gwinnett)

Lanier Longhorns (9-0): are the only Gwinnett team in 5A and have obtain the #1 seed in Region 8-AAAAA. They look to obtain the school’s first undefeated season in its 5 year history this week with a victory over Apalachee. Last year, the Longhorns lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs to the Alexander Cougars. It is safe to say the Longhorns have a legitimate shot to dance further in the playoffs this time around.

Longhorn Sleeper: 2015 DB Stefan Ball (Ball hawking DB who leads the county with 9 interceptions)

Buford Wolves (9-0): are one game away from completing another undefeated regular season. The Wolves, winning the AAA state championship last year, are now in a higher classification. If Buford wins the state championship this year, they will accomplish a 3-peat.

Wolves Sleeper: N/A

GAC Spartans (9-0): can complete an undefeated season with a victory over the Wesleyan Wolves this Friday. They have locked up the #1 region spot and will have home field advantage in the playoffs. This year the Spartan look to play obtain the state championship trophy after losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs last year.

Spartan Sleeper: 2017 QB Davis Mills (60% completion rate with 16 TD passes and only 4 Interceptions)

Wesleyan Wolves (6-3): are locked in to be the #3 team in Region 6-AA. The will play GAC this week before beginning their playoff run. Last year, the Wolves were 2-9 and have come into this year determine to get things turned around. They are definitely a team to watch as they are a feisty bunch of players who are determined to succeed.

Wolves Sleeper: 2016 ATH Jordan Mack (Athletic playmaker on both sides of the ball)
