GGR 2016 Senior Spotlight Pt. 1

josh shim

Josh Shim, QB, South Gwinnett is a mobile QB who does a very good job managing the game. He can stand in the pocket and make an accurate pass or he can use his legs to scramble for the first down. Shim threw for 1216 yards and 6 Td’s in 2014. Look for his numbers to increase as the young Comets will need huge production from their veteran leader.

Marcella Baity, RB, Lanier has real quickness as a runner and is shifty, but is more physical and tough than one would think (check out the 1st play on JR highlights). Baity nearly totaled 500 yards on offense with 353 yards, 2 touchdowns on the ground and 10 receptions for 124 yards and 1 touchdown. He also averaged 33.5 yards per kickoff for 201 yards and 1 touchdown.

Donald Boone, OL, Duluth looks like a natural at the left tackle position.  He is a powerful run blocker with quick feet and is rock solid as a pass protector. I’m sure Boone rarely gets called for holding because he has excellent hand placement. Donald also does a good job of getting depth in his drops to prevent speed rushing defensive ends from getting the edge.

Alex Rowe, DB, GAC is a smart and instinctive safety that can cover a lot of ground on the back end and is very aggressive in the tackle box. He also made plays on special teams and was a core player on the Spartans coverage units. He recorded 56 tackles 5 pass breakups, and  2 interceptions in 2014. Rowe currently holds an offer from Army, and numerous schools have shown interest.

Charles Toe, SS, Archer is a physical player who is always around the ball. He displays good hips in coverage and keeps his head on a swivel. Due to the transfer rules in the county, Toe was only allowed to play JV his Junior year. Look for Charles to make an immediate impact for Archer this season as the Tigers look to make it back to the Dome in consecutive seasons.
