By: Markell Bryant

I had the opportunity to interview one of the most versatile offensive lineman in the county, 2016 prospect Alex Mollette of North Gwinnett High School. After receiving over 30 football scholarship offers, Alex decided to commit to the Marshall University Thundering Herd.

Q: What age did you begin playing football and what was your position?

A: I began playing at the age of 7 as a defensive end and center for Duluth in the Gwinnett Football League (GFL). I played Middle Linebacker in the 8th grade for North Gwinnett. I went into 9th grade excited thinking I was going to be the biggest Middle Linebacker EVER! On the 3rd day of spring practice, the coaches told me I would be playing Nose guard and Right Offensive Tackle.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a student?

A: I’m a good student with a 3.2 GPA. It is a big deal to me and my parents to make sure I’m staying on top of my academics.

Q: Describe yourself as a player

A: I’m a very aggressive and detailed oriented player. I have a very high football IQ with the understanding of how to play fast, physical, and smart at the same time.

Q: Do you have any pregame superstitions?

A: I pray a lot before the game, making sure I give all the glory to God

Q: Congrats on your commitment to Marshall University! What makes Marshall University the school for you?

A: Everything about it! At North Gwinnett, we have a tradition of winning and that is what Marshall has. The environment at Marshall is great with a family atmosphere. The coaches had their family around when I visited and that showed me a lot. The facilities are great as well.

Q: What do you bring to Marshall’s program?

A: An Offensive lineman who is willing to work hard and earn their spot. I’m ready to be a part of the great history of Marshall football.

Q: You are a versatile lineman who knows how to play every position on the offensive line. Where are you expecting to play on the next level? Do you have a favorite?

A: I’m being recruited as center. I will be playing center this coming season as well. It is actually my favorite position because it gives me an opportunity to lead the line and assist with assignments on every play.

Q: What are your goals after your football playing days are over?

A: Going to the NFL is a goal of mine but I understand everyone doesn’t get the opportunity. I plan to get my degree and be an Occupational Therapist. A career in occupational therapy is a dream goal for me.

Q: What motivates you?

A: I’ve always told myself that I want to go to college for free while playing college football. I’m very thankful that I’m one of the people God chose to accomplish this goal. My family also motivates me because I can see how proud they are of me. They keep me going!

Q: Who is your role model and why?

A: My parents. My dad is a Marshall alum (ran track) and works as a Math Consultant. My Mom is a Florida State alum with a Ph.D. in statistics. I’ve been able to see my parents’ progress in life. Being able to see their success makes me want to be just like them.

Q: Who is your favorite NFL player and why?

A: Ja’wuan James. He is a North Gwinnett alum who went to college and is now in the NFL. I like the fact that he is a dominate player who takes care of business.

Favorite Candy: Jolly Ranchers

Favorite Restaurant: Wild Wing Cafe

Favorite Subject: Math (Of Course, I hope my parents are proud!)

Funniest Teammate: Ricci Nuckles (Wide Receiver)

Funniest Coach: Jason Thompson (Defensive Coach)

Favorite Brand (Nike, Under Armour, Adidas): Nike (#CmonMan)

Favorite Music: Rap & Country

Q: If allowed to play QB for 1 play, would you like to run a quarterback draw or throw the deep ball?

A: I’d throw the football deep to Josh Imatorbhebhe, run to him in the end zone, and have him lift me up! (FYI: Josh is 6’2” 205lbs and Alex is 6’3” 285lbs)

Alex is very high character kid who is a very physical and aggressive offensive lineman. Throughout the interview he displayed his character and football IQ. As a versatile lineman, he is definitely a guy to keep an eye on in the near future!
